UFC 317 – Severe MMA Staff Predictions

The MMA news cycle has been awash with Jon Jones’ retirement and seemingly latest run-in with the law. The talk of Twitter has circled on the perceived decline of the UFC. You’d be forgiven for thinking that it’s a dark and gloomy summer for MMA in 2025. But just when we need them most, the MMA Gods deliver a mouth-watering main event this weekend in Las, Vegas. In the words of the great Al Pacino / Michael Corleone: “Just when I thought I was out…they pull me back in!”

UFC 317 is set to crown a new UFC lightweight champion, in the wake of Islam Makhachev’s exodus to the 170lbs division. Fresh off back-to-back KOs over two of the greatest featherweights of all time in Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway, now-former 145lbs king, Ilia Topuria, challenges former 155lbs champion, Charles Oliveira, for gold once more.

In the co-main event, flyweights collide as champion Alexandre Pantoja battles Kiwi Kai Kara France. For a full breakdown of the card, check out the Preview Show on YouTube. For now, here are our staff picks for the main card:
