Tyson Fury Could Turn to MMA Next

WBC heavyweight boxing champion has not been able to hide his frustration at missing out on a shot at Oleksandr Usyk’s WBA (Super), IBF, and WBO titles. A fight between those two champions is unlikely to take place any time soon now.

Joshua And Joyce Represent Potential Opponents

Financially, a fight with either Anthony Joshua or Joe Joyce would be quite lucrative for Fury. Both of those bouts would most likely take place in an outdoor stadium, as there would be a lot of appeal in the UK for a domestic clash.

Joshua is set to meet Jermaine Franklin in his comeback to the ring. He is 14/1 in the Joshua vs Franklin odds. Joshua is expected to win that fight comfortably, and he will be hoping to bounce back from defeat to Usyk with a strong performance.

Joyce is also odds-on at 1/9 in the boxing odds to win his next fight with Zhilei Zhang. Fury is likely to be keeping an eye on that contest, especially with Joyce also being in the same promotion body as him.

Jones and Ngannou have Both Been Linked with Fury

Although no details have been revealed about what a clash between Fury and a UFC fighter would look like, he has been linked with Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou. They are two of the biggest names at heavyweight in MMA.

Jones returned to the Octagon recently after over three years away from the sport. He defeated Ciryl Gane to pick up the vacant heavyweight crown. He is now rated as the pound-for-pound number-one fighter in the UFC.

If Fury wants to take on the biggest name in MMA, Bones would be the fighter to target. A great amount of interest would be attracted in the fighting world, and it may rank as one of the biggest pay-per-view events in history.

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Ngannou has been in the boxing ring following one of Fury’s victories. Provisional talks were held between their parties, and that is something that could be picked up again. The Cameroon fighter is considered one of the most powerful punchers in MMA, so many fighting fans would be keen to see if he could have success against the Gypsy King.

Fury Has Been Involved in Other Projects

The British boxer has been involved in various other projects so far in his career, most notably in WWE. He featured on one of their leading pay-per-view events in 2019. A return to wrestling is also a possible option, as he proved very popular on the wrestling circuit.

Fury has stated he is not afraid to walk away from boxing. He has retired from the sport once, and he could step away again if a new opponent cannot be found soon. That would open the door for the Gypsy King to switch to MMA.

Fury is a huge personality so other offers are likely to come in for the boxing star, should he decide to hang up his gloves. Promoters in MMA will need to put something attractive on the table for them to fight off other competition.

For now, Fury will remain in training and hoping an opponent is locked in soon for what could be one of his last appearances in a boxing ring.
