UFC 240: Max Holloway and Cris Cyborg Aim to Bounce Back After Their Recent Losses

UFC 240 is the next big thing in the fighting world. In less than two weeks time, on July 27, Rogers Place in Edmonton will be the venue of several exciting battles.

However, the main event of the night is the clash between Max Holloway (20-4-0) and Frankie Edgar (23-6-1). These two fantastic fighters will decide who is the next featherweight champion of the UFC.

For years, their head-to-head meeting somehow slipped away from the fighting scene, canceling two prior showdowns because of injuries. But after an unsuccessful appearance at UFC 218 and 222, the time has finally come to see this long-awaited brawl.

Max Holloway’s superb run of 13 consecutive wins had been interrupted against Dustin Poirier this April, with a loss by a unanimous decision after five tough rounds. It was Holloway’s first defeat since 2013 and the fight with Connor McGregor. The match against Poirier was for the lightweight title, and Holloway went one category up to face his opponent.

Holloway wants to bounce back after an unexpected defeat against Poirier and to defend his belt. Of course, this fight is not just a plain title defense, but an opportunity to finally settle things with Edgar, following those two canceled events.

“The Answer,” as the fans call Edgar once held the lightweight belt, and even defended the same on three occasions before losing the title to Benson Henderson at UFC 136. Since then, he never managed to reach any title, regardless of the category. Henderson once, and Jose Aldo twice (featherweight), prevented Edgar from claiming the throne. With 37-years of age, this is basically one of his latest chances to reach a noticeable success.

In the co-main event, Cris Cyborg (20-2-0) is facing Felicia Spencer (7-0-0). This will also be a featherweight match and a very important one. Cyborg lost against UFC’s ruler Amanda Nunes last December, suffering a first-round knockout. After that match, Nunes became the new featherweight champion instead of Cyborg, and she now wants to defend that title. Whoever wins this particular clash will have a shot at taking down one of the most dominant females in this sport.

Cyborg is an absolute favorite, but Spencer shouldn’t be underestimated. The 28-year old from Montreal is a grappling master, and apart from that, she will have a home crowd behind her.

Both Holloway and Cyborg are huge favorites according to the bookies. Betway, Betfair, William Hill, and all other big names are favoring these two fighters to record victories in their respective battles.

Holloway’s triumph is around -400, while odds on Edgar’s success stand at +300. The situation is even more extreme for the co-main event. Cyborg’s victory is -650, but it oscillates from bookie to bookie, and that is something you might use in generating some profits.

Today’s bookmakers offered the new concept of betting exchange, which allows you to place yourself in their position. It practically means that you can be a bookmaker and bet against other punters.

Be sure not to miss UFC 240, as well as the opportunity to make some money through betting.
