Chris Fields replaces Faycal Hucin at Cage Warriors 48 against John Phillips

Frenchman Faycal Hucin has been forced to withdraw from Cage Warriors 48 and is now facing a lengthy lay-off, but fans can still look forward to an exciting main event for Cage Warriors’ eighth show of 2012.

Chris Fields (9-3-0), ranked in the top ten in the UK and Ireland, has agreed to step in and face Phillips (15-5-0-1) for his third CWFC bout of the year.

Fields had been due to take on Phillips in the semi-finals of the CWFC middleweight title tournament in Jordan in April, but the 29-year-old Dubliner was forced to pull out because of a back injury.

Pavel Kusch took Fields’ place and defeated Phillips to book his spot in the final against Victor Cheng, which will take place at CWFC Fight Night 7 on August 30.

However, with Cheng also currently carrying an injury, the winner of the Cage Warriors 48 meeting of Phillips and Fields could be handed a title shot against Kusch.

As explained recently by Cage Warriors CEO Graham Boylan, if Victor Cheng isn’t declared fit to fight by the first week in August, his place in the final will be taken by the winner of the CWFC 48 main event.

Due to the late notice at which Chris Fields has agreed to take on John Phillips, the bout will now be contested at a catchweight of 192lbs.

“First of all we wish Faycal Hucin well in his recovery and we hope to see him back in action as soon as possible,” said Cage Warriors director Patrick Vickers.

“We’re very grateful to Chris Fields for accepting a very difficult fight at such short notice. He’s a guy who always puts on a show so Cage Warriors fans can still expect a top-class fight.

“I’d also like to thanks John Phillips for agreeing to the change of opponent. John was keen for the bout to remain at 185lbs but has agreed to the catchweight in the interests of fair play to Chris.

“I think the fact that we can bring in a guy of the quality of Chris Fields less than two weeks out from the fight is a credit to Cage Warriors as an organisation.”

The Cage Warriors 48 card will be finalised tomorrow, with another main card bout to be announced, as well as a further addition to the preliminary card.
