This Weekend’s Warriors: Alan Philpott talks Irish MMA, John Kavanagh, Bellator matchmaking, and his upcoming fight on ONE Warrior Series 7

This Weekend’s Warriors

Welcome back, pals! It’s that time of the week again, when we look ahead to which Irish MMA fighters are in action at home and abroad. With only one Irish athlete competing, we’ve changed up this week’s edition of “This Weekend’s Warriors” by making it a video interview with Alan “The Apprentice” Philpott.

Philpott (18-11) may go by “The Apprentice” in the cage, but he’s more of a mentor these days. The Northern Irish bantamweight has been living in Sydney, Australia for the last two years, acquiring the role of head coach at Legends MMA, while still pursuing his own career in professional MMA.

Never one to mince his words, I sat down for a chat with him ahead of his third fight on Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series versus Myeong Gu Kim (10-5) on Tuesday 6th August 2019. We discussed his experiences dealing with ONE Championship, his goal of leading the charge for Irish and UK MMA in Asia by securing a ONE Championship contract, the Irish MMA scene, Bellator matchmaking, and he had some choice words to say about SBG head coach John Kavanagh.

Without further ado, you can check out the full interview below:

Fans can watch Alan’s fight against Myeong Gu Kim on ONE Championship’s YouTube channel, Twitter account, Facebook page, or you can download ONE’s app. The card kicks off at 4pm in Singapore (9am Irish time), and Philpott expects to be one of the last fights on the card.
