Cathal Pendred confirmed as next opponent for Cage Warriors champ Gael Grimaud

Cathal Pendred is coming off two impressive wins in the past few months over top European talent, in the form of UFC veteran David Bielkhden and his fellow Brazilian Bruno Carvalho, who Cathal beat via a close unanimous decision in the main event of Cage Warriors 49 in Cardiff, Wales last month.

Cathal was on MMAJunkie Radio earlier in the week and had some choice words for Cage Warriors welterweight champion Gael Grimaud and his “fake record”

And it seems Cage Warriors have been listening, Cage Warriors Director Graham Boylan confirmed via his facebook account earlier today that 11-2-1 Irishman Cathal Pendred is set to face Gael Grimaud next for a shot at his welterweight championship

“Official Cage Warriors News update : When Cathal Pendred is back in action his next fight on Cage Warriors will be for the Cage Warriors World Title.” – Graham Boylan

“I’ve been chasing this fight for a while, he has been ducking and dodging me. I should be the champion, I’m the more deserving guy”

With the year’s end closing in, the bout is unlikely to take place in 2012 especially with Cage Warriors 51 on New Year’s Eve in Dublin rumoured to already have 2 titles on the line.

“I’ve got 5 fight with Cage Warriors, and I’m undefeated. This guys only had 2 fight, the last 2 guys I’ve fought are better and more dangerous than this guy so I’m very confident going into this fight and looking forward to taking that belt off him.”

“I’ve been calling him out for the last year, and I can’t get a hold of him”

Frenchman Gael Grimaud recently fought outside of Cage Warriors at “Pancrace – Kamel Jemel Jubilee” in a two round bout against Gary Kono, who he already beat as recently as 2011 and who now holds a 10-10 professional MMA record, having now lost his last 3 fights in a row and 4 of his last 5.

“He’s fighting bums, the last guy he fought had a losing record. He seems to be just padding the record up. I’d call it a fake record,

“He’s from France and MMA’s not legal in France. They have kickboxing fights with take downs but no shots on the ground, just grappling. Half his fights are made up of these fights”

“I wouldn’t consider them professional MMA fights, I had fights like that with no strikes on the ground and we call that amateur over here in Ireland”
