Isaksson and Murrie for Interim title in the works for Cage Contender in Belfast

Cage Contender’s new welterweight signings Wayne Murrie and Arni Isaksson are being lined up to face off for the Cage Contender interim welterweight championship on 20th October in Belfast, in what will be the cards new main event, should both camps agree to the bout.

An injury has forced Liam Shannon to pull out of his bout with The Ultimate Fighter veteran Ross ‘The Gladiator’ Pointon. Instead FAI’s Shannon will be replaced by Antrim’s former kickboxing world champion Connor Cooke.

We spoke with Cage Contender owner John Ferguson earlier today, who confirmed the bout had been offered to both parties

“We have offered the fight to both fighters, Isaksson has accepted, we are now waiting on the Murrie camp”

Although the bout is not a done deal at this time, John Ferguson is confident it will go ahead on 20th October in The King’s Hall, Belfast

“It’s a fight we want to happen and we believe that the fans want to see it happen.”

“We will do everything in our power to make the fight happen 20th October”

Both Murrie and Isaksson have signed 3 fight deals with the promotion.

We caught up with newly signed Wayne ‘Mayhem’ Murrie and asked him about a potential match up with ‘The Ice Viking’

“I’m ready and more than willing to take on Arni at Cage Contender. Just waiting for purse to be confirmed and it’s on.”

Cage Contender owner John Ferguson had hinted at the match up to us yesterday saying he expected fans to come to their own conclusions.

“I’m sure people will come to their own conclusions, seeing as we have signed top European welterweights on the same day”
