Three more fighters confirmed for Cage Contender ‘Fight Stars’ Tournament

When it was first announced that top promoters Chris Zorba (OMMAC) and John Ferguson (Cage Contender) would come together to put on a huge tournament featuring many of Europe’s top fighters, it was the featherweight divison originally targeted.

However, changes in schedule saw the date pushed back until December and the weightclass changed to 155lbs.

It’s no bad thing, as the depth in the UK, Ireland and Europe at lightweight means that there is no shortage of great talent to choose from.

Billed as the Cage Contender ‘Fight Stars’ tournament, it will be held at the Liverpool Olympia on December 1st and will be aired in the UK, Ireland and internationally. Eight fighters are four reserves are being announced, and a huge prize fund is in order for the winner.

The latest confirmations have made their way to Your MMA this morning, and we can reveal that they are:

Michael Pastou (9-2, 1 NC)  – Team Titan and American Top Team star Pastou has wins over Francis Heagney and Mark Glover, and held the UCMMA title before being stopped by Tim Radcliffe in one of UK MMA’s greatest comebacks. Since then Pastou has added another two wins to his resume, but injury has kept him out of action since October. He’ll be hoping a successful return to action will set him in good stead for the tournament in December.

Norman Parke (15-2) – Parke, now training in the States, holds an impressive record with eleven submissions and three T/KOs amongst his victories. The Irishman has great wrestling and is competent in all ranges. He currently rides a six-fight win streak, with his only losses coming in his 2006 pro debut to Greg Loughran, and a loss over two years ago to the talented Joe Duffy. With names like Ali Maclean, Marcos Nardini and Myles Price on his resume, the Bushmills man will be hard to beat.

Mark Glover (6-1-1) – Kaobon man Mark Glover hasn’t been as active as he may have liked, but he added two victories to his record in 2011 and earned himself a shot on The Ultimate Fighter Live this year, losing via decision in the elimination round. With all his wins coming inside the distance over the likes of Aaron Wilkinson and Mick Bowman, the local favourite will have the crowd behind him inside a venue he has frequented for six of his pro fights. He also has a decision loss to Pastou at UCMMA, and he’ll be looking to avenge that in the tournament.

With the latest additions and the first batch announced by The Fight Lounge, the first six names are:

  • Michael Pastou
  • Norman Parke
  • Mark Glover
  • Curt Warburton
  • Tim Newman
  • Jason Ball

With another six to be announced, there are several rumblings that suggest fans will continue to be impressed by the tournament, which is shaping up to be one of the biggest UK MMA has ever seen.

The draw will be made on November 1st, and full coverage of the live show will be available from the The Olympia.
