In a week of horrible injury news there is even more of it tonight as FOX Sports are reporting that lightweight Tony Ferguson is out of his upcoming bout with notorious Russian bear-fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The bout was due be the main event of next week’s card in Tampa, Florida but now the co-main event between former UFC champion Rashad Evans and Brazilian Glover Teixeira will be elevated a spot.

Having missed close to two years with injury, many feared Nurmagomedov would be the one forced to pull out here but in fact it’s the other way around.

Currently riding a seven fight win streak, Ferguson was in the form of his life having just beaten Edson Barboza in one of the best fights of 2015.

With Khabib 22-outings unbeaten, the fight was looked upon by many as the logical number one contender bout but now that is up in the air with the UFC confirming to Fox Sports that a replacement will not be drafted in.
