George Foreman claims Mike Tyson has a shot for the World title

Heavyweight legend George Foreman took to the media go back Mike Tyson for a chance at the World title while also tipping the 54-year-old boxer to claim victory by knockout, if he took on the right opponent.

At the age of 54, Mike Tyson was still able to surprise people with his fitness, which he displayed to everyone in his exhibition against Roy Jones Jr on Saturday. The match, which ended up being an eight-round contest, was marked as a draw at the end, yet many feel Tyson’s punches were more effective than his opponent’s.

After watching Tyson display his might in California, Foreman spoke to USA Today, saying: “If he gets in shape like he’s in now, and then gets his timing back, and all the other things fall into place, he can have an opportunity to fight for the title.

“If he can be managed right, a champion, the right champion, will come to him. And if the right one comes, he can knock him out.”

Foreman, who was nicknamed Big George in his career, could be said to be experienced in these matters considering he made one of the most famous comebacks in heavyweight of all time. Foreman secured the heavyweight title in his twenties, he was able to defend the title two times before he suffered his first loss to Muhammad Ali back in 1974, a match with several odds of which PointsBet promo code  helped several punters win – he eventually mounted his comeback in his forties, winning the world title he lost 20 years defeating Michael Moorer.

There is, obviously, still a big difference between 45 and 54 years old. This is backed up with the fact that Tyson was looking weak at the end of his career 15 years ago, and has fought against drugs and drink ever since.

Foreman continued: “Tyson looked great. He really did. And Roy Jones had to use every old skill out of the book to keep himself from being knocked out.

“I just couldn’t believe what I saw. And that was just an exhibition. Just think if [Tyson] had some activity in the last two years. He’d be in line to be the champion of the world again at 54, 55.”

Although Big George is backing Tyson for a world title, there is still a big difference between fighting eight rounds in an exhibition match against a 51-year-old and battling Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua for the world title.

Foreman said: “You have to have a really good manager to navigate you who to fight and who not to fight. But if he gets someone who can do some creative moves, he can be in a big-time quickly.”

“What impressed me most; he missed a lot of shots. He found himself out of position. He recaptured it and got back on track. Roy Jones had him confused the first round or two, and he fought through that… That impressed me more than anything he did. Keeping his mind in the game.”

The 54-year-old boxer is reportedly keen on fighting and will likely be having another exhibition, against a boxer in the same age range as himself. This, however, seems more plausible than setting himself up for a comeback in his professional career.

Foreman claims that Mike Tyson is clearly not as rusty as the media believes and he also has a shot at the title. Considering Big George’s experience, he might as well be spot on in his claims.
