UFC Fight Night: Ortega vs. Korean Zombie Review & Highlights

A featherweight firefight took place on Saturday night where Brian Ortega put on an incredible performance in defeating Korean Zombie. In the co-main event, Jessica Andrade made a claim to be the number one contender to Valentina Shevchenko’s title. The Brazilian took out Katlyn Chookagian in the second round of their flyweight bout.

In the opening bout of the evening Said Nurmagomedov wasted no time and knocked out in just :51 seconds. Very impressive from the Russian.

Maxim Grishin got the TKO victory over Gadzhimurad Antigulov. The Russians went to battle in the light heavyweight division and it was Grishin who picked up the win in dominating fashion.

Fares Ziam and Jamie Mullarkey fought to a close decision that could have gone either way. It was the Frenchman, Ziam who got the nod in the lightweight encounter.

Jun Yong Park dominated John Phillips over three round to take a comfortable decision on all three scorecards. Somehow it was Park that left the fight with more damage after the middleweight fight.

Gillian Robertson put on a grappling clinic when she got a unanimous decision victory over Poliana Botelho. The Canadian moved to 9-4 and progress’s up the rankings in the flyweight division.

Headlining the prelims was a lightweight showdown between Guram Kutateladze and Mateusz Gamrot. After a three round back and forth a bout that could of went either went in favour of Kutateladze, who handed Gamrot his first loss of his career.

In the opening fight of the main card, Jonathan Martinez get the win over the returning Thomas Almeida. Martinez impressed picking up a unanimous decision win in the featherweight division.

James Krause came into this fight with Claudio Silva on one weeks notice. Silva landed an inside leg kick in round one blowing out the knee of Krause. Krause showed his warrior spirit by grabbing the deserved unanimous decision victory over the Brazilian in the welterweight division.

Light Heavyweight top prospects Jimmy Crute and Modestas Bukauskas threw down with Crute picking up the win. The Australian put on a clinic and showed off his impressive power by stopping Bukauskas in the very first round. Crute will have eyes on the top ten after the highlight reel knockout.

Jessica Andrade took on number one contender Katlyn Chookagian in the flyweight division and came away with the victory. Andrade showed her big power landing big a body shot and following up with another to end the former title challengers night in the first round. The Brazilian may have very well set herself up for a shot at Valentina Shevchenko’s title

The highly anticipated featherweight fight between Brian Ortega and Korean Zombie did disappoint. Ortega showcased that he has massively improved since his defeat to Max Holloway. A huge spinning back elbow changed the course of the fight and Ortega took control and went on to win all five rounds on the scorecards. The win sets Ortega up for a crack at the featherweight title. The champion, Alex Volkanovski is waiting in the wings.
